PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Sometimes referred to as ‘the original Birkin,’ the Haut à Courroies (HAC), meaning "High Belt" in French, was originally designed to carry saddles and has been in production for nearly a century. This particular example from the early 1980s features a Toile canvas body paired with Rouge H Box leather accents and vintage Hermes-branded lining, unique to bags from this period. Patinated gold hardware completes the look, and while it lacks the original lock, considering its age, makes it a rare and special find. This travel Birkin, with its distinct history, is sure to stand out in any crowd.

The Oldest Member of the Family:
The Haut à Courroies was Hermès’ first creation, designed at the beginning of the 20th century to transport saddles and riding boots. Before the automobile and modern travel conveniences, this bag made life easier for riders while offering a practical and elegant solution. The bag's flap folded flat against the rear, creating a wide opening, with saddle flaps held in place by straps, almost as if by magic.
